How can TASK help with training and preparation?
Link with a Mentor. If you agree, you will be linked with a mentor to work with you in your region of the country. He or she will go over with you the options for training. How much will be possible will depend on the time you have available and what gaps need to be covered in your existing knowledge and experience. Topics will include for example spiritual preparation, assessing suitability, understanding culture, language, ethics in the marketplace, relationship with the home church, teamwork, expectations and accountability, time management, culture stress and burnout. And much more.................Pages 10 and 11 of the booklet "The Challenge of Tentmaking" sets out all the areas where competence is required (the booklet is available to buy (see bottom of this page).
Where can suitable training be found outside TASK?
In addition to Bible College courses, there are organisations that run suitable short courses eg Redcliffe College in Gloucester and Bawtry Hall near Doncaster. See the appropriate annex in "The Challenge of Tentmaking" (to obtain: see last paragraph).
What about distance learning courses?
We recommend "Working your Way to the Nations", organised and compiled by Dr Jonathan Lewis of Canada. The material has well known international contributors, and is also recommended by Tentmakers International (TI). Log on to www.learnerscom.net/LC/wywap.html.
For more information on training please see the Contact Us page.
As mentioned above we have a 16 page booklet 'The Challenge of Tentmaking', and also a 15 minute video and DVD ' Tentmaking a Way of Life'. If you would like more information or to order these please click HERE.
